Wyckoff & Harmonic Patterns — advanced edge
Two pattern frameworks used by smart money traders. Wyckoff for cycle phases, harmonics for precise reversal zones. Both bake into our master filter.
Wyckoff phases
Richard Wyckoff (1900s) noticed markets cycle through 4 phases. We still see them on every chart 100 years later:
📥 Accumulation (A→B→C→D→E)
- Phase A: selling climax. Panic low marks the bottom.
- Phase B: sideways range. Smart money quietly accumulating.
- Phase C: "spring" — final liquidity sweep below the range. Last shake-out.
- Phase D: price breaks UP and out. Markup begins.
- Phase E: uptrend running.
📤 Distribution (mirror image)
- Phase A: buying climax — euphoric high.
- Phase B: sideways. Smart money distributing to retail.
- Phase C: "upthrust" — final fake-out high.
- Phase D: price breaks DOWN. Markdown begins.
- Phase E: downtrend running.
How we use it
Our master filter detects the current Wyckoff phase on the 1H. Trades in Phase C/D align with the new direction get a confidence boost. Trades fighting the phase get penalized.
Harmonic patterns
Geometric reversal patterns based on Fibonacci ratios. Four major ones:
📐 Gartley
Most common. Pattern shape: X-A-B-C-D where retracements hit specific Fib levels. Entry at D = 78.6% retracement of XA.
🦋 Butterfly
Extension pattern. D extends BEYOND X (127% or 161.8% extension). Powerful reversal but rare.
🦇 Bat
Conservative version. D at 88.6% of XA. Tightest entry, smallest stop.
🦀 Crab
Most extreme. D at 161.8% extension of XA. Highest R:R but harder to spot in real time.
Why harmonics work
Fibonacci ratios appear naturally in market psychology — they map to the same retracement/extension percentages humans tend to react at. Big institutions program algorithms around these levels.
Result: when a clean Gartley/Bat/Butterfly forms at a key level, the reaction is often sharp. Reversal probability can hit 70%+ when combined with structure.
The harmonic warning
Harmonics are rare events. Most traders force them — drawing patterns where they don't really exist. Our bot detects only strict harmonics (Fib tolerance ±3%). Maybe 1-2 valid Crabs per pair per month.
Don't go hunting harmonics. Let them come to you.
Self-study tips
- Watch for these on your charts — practice spotting them after the fact first
- Bot doesn't fire pure-harmonic signals (too rare) but uses Wyckoff phase as confluence
- For Wyckoff specifically: scroll any 1H chart in retrospect, you'll see A→E cycles everywhere
